Gillian Lansdowne
Gillian has 20 years of executive search experience, working with senior executives across a wide array of functional disciplines and industry sectors. She’s an expert in the ‘art and science’ of assessing an individual’s experience, competencies, characteristics, and their ability to contribute. Her expertise and guidance ensure that candidates are aligned to the organization’s specific business needs and strategic direction. Gillian has extensive international experience, having lived and worked in Canada, the UK, and South Africa, and has conducted numerous cross-border search assignments on behalf of global clients.
Before founding Lansdowne Board Intelligence, Gillian was a Partner and Leader of a global search firm’s Financial Services and Real Estate Practice, and a member of the Professional Services practice. At this firm, she was co-leader of the firm’s diversity initiative. Prior to this, Gillian was the Founder of the Toronto office of Stanton Chase International where she was Managing Director for fifteen years.
Gillian has written articles and is a frequent speaker about issues related to diversity, and has conducted a North American survey on the shifting demographics and its impact on business. Many years ago, before board diversity gained the visibility it has today, Gillian’s interest in the lack of parity on boards sparked the idea to identify and track senior female executives. This impressive research base is leveraged as part of a broader and more rigorous search process in seeking out qualified and diverse talent. Her connections are vast and extend globally.
Gillian is active with several charitable organizations, and was a Director and Chair of the governance and board development committee for a NFP. She is a member of Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO), the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD), the Canadian Society of Corporate Secretaries (CSCS), Women Gaining Ground (WGG), Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA), WXN, and Women in Capital Markets (WCM).
Martin Furman
For almost fifteen years, Martin has provided Executive Search Services to both public and private organizations in a variety of industries and functional disciplines, with strong expertise in financial, accounting, auditing, risk management, financial planning, and strategic planning functions. Martin brings a strong ability to source and attract scarce talent and to work constructively and effectively with board directors and executive candidates.
Prior to entering the search profession, Martin had over 20 years of experience working at senior levels in the finance function of various companies with multinational operations in the financial services, petrochemical and computer industries. This experience includes working for IBM South Africa in Johannesburg; for IBM EMEA Headquarters in Paris and in New York; and, for Polysar, Royal Trust and National Trust in Canada.
Martin is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and has a Higher Diploma in Tax Law from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He has also attended an Executive Development Course in Managing Corporate Planning and Control at Harvard University.
Sue Banting
Sue has 20 years of recruiting experience working with executives across a variety of industries, which includes a strong focus in the technology and professional services sectors. Sue is a champion of women in business, she co-founded Senior Women in Technology (SWIT), a grassroots organization that brings together senior women in technology to network, engage in professional development and listen to provocative speakers.
Previously, Sue was a Partner with Odgers Berndtson for 12 years where she led theTechnology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) practice, and was co-leader of the firm’s diversity initiative. Prior to this, Sue led the recruiting function at Deloitte Consulting. Sue has conducted over 300 executive level and board searches. Her search experience is complemented by a number of years in technical and sales roles within the telecommunications sector.
Sue holds an Honours B.A., Political Studies from Queen’s University. She has stayed involved with her alma mater through the years, sitting on their M.B.A. Advisory Board and working with young women of the Queen’s MBA program to organize ‘Women in Leadership’ events.
Active in the community, Sue has been involved with Easter Seals and the United Way over the years, and supported Sheena’s Place for over 8 years as an active board member and Board Chair.
Joanna Solomon
Joanna has close to 10 years of executive search experience working with a boutique firm in the not-for-profit sector, and a large global search firm where she focused on the financial services sector – specifically institutional asset management. Joanna brings strong expertise in developing search strategies, following rigorous search processes and evaluating a candidate’s fit.
Most recently, Joanna was with RBC Financial Group where she had the mandate to build their Senior Leadership Recruitment Function to eliminate vendor spend at the Director and VP levels. Joanna is currently an independent researcher, providing research, and candidate sourcing and development services.
Joanna has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario and has completed the Canadian Securities Course.
